Explanation

Let Arjun be designated as A

Let Shriya be designated as S.

A is twice as old as S

Let S be x years old currently.

Therefore A is 2(x) years old currently.

5 years ago S was ( x - 5 ) years old

5 years ago A was (2(x) - 5) years old

5 years ago A was three times S' age.

That is, 5 years ago, ( 2x - 5 ) = 3( x - 5 )

or

2x - 5 = 3x - 15 so

3x - 2x = -5 + 15 or

x = 10

I stated that S' Current age was x years old. We have now identified x as 10 years old.

A is therefore identified as 2x years old or 20 years old.

Therefore currently Arjun and Shryia are 20 and 10 years old respectively.

PB

PP Note that 5 years ago A was 15 and S was 5, so A was three times S' age.

Question :

Sachin bought a second hand car for Rs 80,000 spent Rs 5,000 on its repairs and Rs 1000 on transportation. She later sold it at a profit of Rs 21,500. At what price did Shreya sell the car ?

Answer :

\sf\pink{Given:}

bought second hand car for Rs 80000 .

spent Rs 5000 on repairing .

spent Rs 1000 on transportation .

sold for profit of Rs 21,500

\sf\pink{To\:find:}

Selling price of the car ?

Explanation :

Total cost price of the car = buying price + repairing price + transportation cost .

\longrightarrow\bf{ 80000 + 5000 + 1000}

\longrightarrow\bf{ 85000 +  1000}

\longrightarrow\bf{ 86000}

Therefore its total cost price is Rs 86,000 .

Profit = Selling Price - cost Price

let the selling price be "x"

\longrightarrow\bf{ 21500 = x - 86000 }

\longrightarrow\bf{ x = 21500 +  86000 }

\longrightarrow\bf{ x = 107500}

Therefore she sold it for Rs 1,07,500 .
