Answer is 24

Girl =60 %

Boys =40%

Step-by-step explanation:

Let total number of students be x.

40% of x= 60% of x - 12

(40/100)x=(60/100)x -12

12=(60/100)x-(40/100)x

12=(20/100)x

12×100/20=x

60 =x

40% of x=24

Given

Difference b/w boys & girls = 12

Girls are 60%

To find

Number of boys.

Solution

Let the number of boys be b, number of girls be g.

Total number of students = (b + g)

According to 1st case :

⟼ g - b = 12

g = b + 12 ..(i)

According to 2nd case :

➺ g = 60% of (b + g)

➺ b + 12 = 60/100 of (b + b + 12)

➺ b + 12 = 3/5 of (2b + 12)

➺ b + 12 = (6b + 36)/5

➺ 5b + 60 = 6b + 36

➺ 6b - 5b = 60 - 36

b = 24

Therefore,

There are 24 boys in the class.
