Solution. Cousin 1 – x. Cousin 2 – y. The difference between the ages of two cousins is 10 years: ? − ? =10 15 years ago, if the elder one was twice as old as the younger one: ? −15=2( ? −15) So, we obtain the system of two equations: { ? − ? =10 ? −15=2( ? −15) → 10+ ? −15=2( ? −15) → ? =25→ ? =35 Answer. 15 yrs ago let the age of younger cousin be "x".

and the age of older cousin be "2x".

Now after 15 yrs the age of younger cousin is " x + 15 "

and the age of older cousin is " 2x + 15 "

The difference between the two cousins is 10.

that is ,

(2x + 15) - (x + 15) = 10

=> 2x + 15 - x - 15 = 10

=> 2x - x + 15 - 15 = 10

=> x = 10

If 15 yrs ago the age of younger cousin is 10 .

Then the present age of younger cousin is x+15

= 10 + 15 = 25 years

And the present age of older cousin is 2x + 15

= (2 × 10) + 15

= 20 + 15

= 35 years
