EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

The difference between the ages of two person

is 10 years.

15 years ago the elder one was twice as old as

younger one.

TO FIND PRESENT AGE OF THE ELDER

PERSON.

Let the present age of younger person

will be = x years.

15 years ago it will be = ( x - 15 ) years.

Let the present age of elder person will be

=> x + 10 .....(1)

15 years ago it will be = x + 10 - 15 = x - 5

The elder was twice as old as younger.

=> x - 5 = 2 ( x - 15 )

=> x - 5 = 2x - 30

=> -x = -25

=> x = 25

From equation (1) we get

=> 25 + 10 = 35 years.

Therefore,

present age of elder person = 35 years.
