in simple words, kanyakumari is close to the equator and kashmir is far from the equator which means kanyakumari is at lesser lattitude as compared to kashmir as equator gets direct sunlight, the above phenomenon takes place

Difference between the duration of day and night is totally depends on the latitude of place on which it is situated.
India is located in 8°4' to 37°6'N Latitude. In the north side of it Kashmir is located and south side Kanyakumari there is a big difference between their latitude and the affect of light of sun is also depends on the position of latitude according to the rotation of earth. that's why there is a big difference of the duration of day and light between Kashmir and Kanyakumari.
