Outer diameter = 5cm

Inner diameter = 3cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: Surface area of a solid metallic sphere is 616 cm². It is melted and recast into a cone of height 28 cm.

To Find: Diameter of the base of the cone so formed.

Solution:

Difference between Outer and Inner Surface area = 2π(R-r)h = 88 sq.cm

(R-r) = 88/(2π*14) = 1 cm -------(1)

So thickness of the cylinder is 1cm.

Volume of the hollow cylinder = πR²h - πr²h = 176 cu.cm.

  So πh(R²-r²) = 176 cu.cm.

 22/7 * 14 (R+r) (R-r) = 176

R +r = 176/44 = 4 cm -------(2)

From 1 & 2, we get 2R = 5

So outer diameter = 5cm

 2r = 3

So inner diameter = 3cm
