Given:

Two consecutive numbers

To Find:

Difference between the squares of two consecutive numbers

Solution:

We know that,

➺ (a+b)²= a²+b²+2ab

Let the two consecutive numbers be x and x+1

Now,

➳ (x+1)² -x²

➳ x²+1+2x- x²

➳ 2x+1

It can also be written as

➳ x+x+1

➳ (x)+(x+1)

Which is the sum of consecutive numbers

Hence, difference between the squares of two consecutive numbers is equal to their sum(ii).
