Answer :-

  • -18
  • -17

Given :-

  • The difference between the squares of two consecutive numbers is 35.

To Find :-

  • The numbers.

Solution :-

Let

  • first consecutive number be x
  • second consecutive number (x + 1)

Difference between the squares of both is 35.

Equation :- (x + 1)² - = 35

According to question :-

(x)² - (x + 1)² = 35

→ x² - (x² + 2x + 1) = 35

→ x² - x² - 2x - 1 = 35

→ - 2x - 1 = 35

→ - 2x = 35 + 1

→ - 2x = 36

→ x = -36/2

→ x = - 18

Now,

  • first consecutive number = x = - 18
  • second consecutive number = (x + 1) = (-18 + 1) = - 17

Hence, the numbers are -18 and -17 respectively.
