from the question,

X - Y = 72 -------(1)

and X/Y = 4,
X = 4Y -------(2)

Substitute 2 in 1,

4Y - Y = 72,
Y = 24,
And X = 72+24 = 96,

Therefore the numbers are 96 and 24 !
