the difference between two number is 16 if their sum is 68 what are the numbers

Let the two number be x and y !!
Then ,

x - y = 16 (1)
x + y = 68 (2)

From (1) and (2)

2x = 84
x = 42
Substitution the value of x in (1)
42 - y = 16
y = 42 - 16 = 26
Hence the numbers are 42 and 26

x  -y  = 16       -----2equation

Adding both equations,

x + y = 68 
x - y = 16

2x = 84

x = 84/2 
x = 42 

Putting the value of in 1equation,

x + y = 68 

42 + y = 68 

y =68 - 42 

y = 26



Number are 26 and 42
