Let the one number be x
And other be y

So,

x - y = 16........(i)
x + y = 68........(ii)


Add (i) and (ii) We get,

2x = 84
=> x = 84/2 = 42


Now,

From equation (i)

x - y = 16
=> 42 - y = 16
=> - y = 16 - 42
=> - y = - 26
=> y = 26

So,
x = 42 and y = 26


PROVE..................

42 - 26 = 16
42 + 26 = 68
