Let the smaller no. be x then bigger no. 8+x
Now
(8+x+2) = 3x
10+x = 3x
X = 10/2 = 5

Therefore 5 and 13

Difference between the numbers is 8 so the first number would be n and the second number is n + 8. (n is number)

Add two to the bigger number: n + 8 + 2 which also equals to n + 10.

3 times the smaller number would be 3n.

Make an equation.

n + 8 + 2 = 3n

Move the n's to one side and the numbers to another.

n - 3n = -8 - 2

Do the subtractions.

-2n = -10

Divide -10 by -2 to get n = 5.

So the smaller number is 5 and the bigger number is 13, which we derived from the formula n + 8.
