the difference between two numbers is 18.if their sum is 86. what are the number challenging you if you can answer

from equation 1&2
we get 2x=104
then x=104÷2=52is the 1st number and the 2nd number will be 86-52=34

Let the two digits be 'x' and 'y', then accordingly,
 
        x - y = 18 --------------------------- 1
and,
        x + y = 86 --------------------------- 2

by adding 1 and 2, we get,

⇒ 2x = 104
⇒ x   = 104 / 2
⇒ x   = 52

Now, from 1 i.e. ⇒ x - y = 18, we get,

⇒  52 - y = 18 
⇒ - y       = 18 - 52
⇒ - y       = - 34

On canceling minus(-) sign, we get,
y = 34

⇒ The two numbers are 52  and 34
