The difference between two numbers is 18. If their sum is 86 then, what is the numbers?

let the two numbers be x and y

x - y = 18 -------- ( i )

x + y = 86---------( ii )

from (i)
x = 18 + y

putting this in ( ii)

18 + y + y = 86
2y + 18 = 86
2y = 86 - 18
2y = 68
y = 34

y = 34

x = ?
x - 34 = 18
x = 18 + 34
x = 52

x = 52 and y = 34

so , the two nunbers are 52 and 34 ✔✔

Putting the value of x in equation (2)
(18+y) + y = 86
18+ 2y = 86
2y = 86-18

x= 18+34
