the difference between two numbers is 26 and one number is three times the other then the numbers are

let the larger number be x

let the smaller number be y

According to Question,

Difference is 26

So, x - y = 26..............eq(1)

And also given that,

one number is three times the other

So, x = 3y.......eq(2)

Substitute x= 3y in eq(1), we get

$3y - y = 26$

$2y = 26$

$y = \frac{26}{2} = 13$

Substitute y = 13 in eq(2) ,we get

$x = 3 \times 13 = 39$

Therefore , x = 39 ; y = 13

Verification :-

$x - y = 26 \\ so \: \: 39 - 13 = 26 \\ hence \: proved.......$
