Answer:

Let the two numbers be x and y respectively .

According to the conditions ;

x - y = 26

x = 26 + y ----(1)

x = 3y ---(2)

substituting eq (1) in eq(2)

26 + y = 3y

2y = 26

y = 13 ----(3)

substituting eq (3) in eq(1)

x = 26 + 13

x = 39

the numbers are 13 and 39 .

Given :The difference between two numbers is 26 and one number is three times the other.

Solution:

Let the two numbers be x and y.

ATQ :

Condition : 1

x - y = 26……………(1)

Condition : 2

x = 3y …………..(2)

On Substituting the value of x in equation (1) we obtain :

x - y = 26

3y – y = 26

2y = 26

y = 26/2

y = 13

On putting y = 13 in eq (2)  we obtain :

x = 3y

x = 3 (13)

x = 39

Hence the numbers are 39 and 13.
