Let the smaller number be y                  

According to the question,            

⇒ x – y = 26                  

⇒ x = 26 + y                  

Then,      

⇒ x = 3y                  

Putting the value of x we get                  

⇒ 26 = 3y-y

⇒ 26 =2y

⇒ 13 = y        

So value of x = 3y                  

Putting value of y, we get                  

⇒ x = 3 × 13

⇒ x = 39                  

Hence, the numbers are 13 and 39.
