y - x =27

so, x =y - 27 - - - - - -(ii)

Substituting (ii) in (i),we get: (y-27)/y = 4/7

7(y-27) =4y

7y - 189 = 4y

7y - 4y = 189

3y = 189

y=63

The smaller number x = 63–27 =36.
