The difference between two numbers is 66 and the ratio of two numbers is 2:5 then what are they

If their difference is 66, find the whole numbers.

Since the whole numbers are in the ratio 2:5,

Let the whole numbers be 2*x, 5*x.

Difference between the whole numbers is 66.

Thus,

5*x - 2*x = 66

3*x = 66

x = 22

Thus the whole numbers are : 2*22, 5*22 i.e,

44,110.

Let the two numbers be x & y...

By looking at the ratio we can say 2x = 5y...............(i)

By looking at the difference we can say x - y = 66....................(ii)

Or, x = 66+y.......(iii)

Putting this value of x in eq.(i) we get  :

2(66+y) = 5y

132 + 2y = 5y

3y = 132

y = 44

Putting this value of y in eq.(iii) we get  :

x = 66 + 44

x = 110
