Step-by-step explanation:

Solution :-

Let the 1st number be x

And the 2nd number be y.

According to the Question,

Difference = 8

x - y = 8. ....(i)

If 2 is added to the bigger number the result  will be three times the smaller number.

⇒ x + 2 = 3y

⇒  x - 3y = -2 ......(ii)

Solving Eq (i) and (ii), we get

⇒ x - y - (x - 3y) = 8 - (-2)

⇒  x - y - x + 3y = 8 + 2

⇒ 2y = 10

⇒  y = 10/2

⇒  y = 5

Putting y value in Eq (i), we get

⇒ x - 5 = 8

⇒  x = 8 + 5

 x = 13

Hence, the larger number is 13 and smaller is 5.
