Also,

⟹ x + 3y = 33 -- equation (2)

Subtract equation (1) from (2).

⟹ x + 3y - (x - y) = 33 - 5

⟹ x + 3y - x + y = 28

⟹ 4y = 28

⟹ y = 28/4

⟹ y = 7

Substitute the value of y in equation (1).

⟹ x - 7 = 5

⟹ x = 5 + 7

⟹ x = 12

Therefore, the two numbers are 12 & 7.
