Step-by-step explanation:

Let the larger no. be x and the smaller one be x-7

Then,

6(x-7) +x = 77 ...(given)

⇒6x - 42 +x = 77

⇒7x- 42 = 77

i.e x= 17

Now putting the value of x in given equation, we get

i.e x-7=y

⇒y = 17-7

⇒y = 10

Question:

The difference between two numbers 7. Six times the smaller plus larger is 77. Find the number.

Solution:

• Let the bigger number be M.

And

• Smaller number be M - 7

A.T.Q.

» Six times the smaller (M - 7) plus larger (M ) is 77.

=> 6(M - 7) + M = 77

=> 6M - 42 + M = 77

=> 7M = 77 + 42

=> 7M = 119

=> M = 119/7

=> M = 17

• M - 7

=> 17 - 7 = 10

✡ Verification :

The difference between two numbers (i.e. Bigger number and of Smaller number) is 7.

From above calculations we have bigger number = 17 and smaller number = 10

Bigger number - Smaller number = 7

=) 17 - 10 = 7

=) 7 = 7
