here is the solution,
let the numbers be X and Y(X>Y)
thus,
X-Y=36
and
X/Y=4
=>X=4Y
thus,
4Y-Y=36
=>3Y=36
=>Y=12
and hence X=4*12=48
thus, numbers are 48 and 12.

4y-y=36
3y=36
y=12.
