b) two selling prices of the jacket
Formula to be used:
Solution:
(a) Finding the cost price of the jacket
Let Rs. "x" be the cost price of the jacket.
Profit earned on the first jacket = 4%
Profit earned on the second jacket = 5%
So, using the formula, we get
The selling price of the first jacket = ..... (i)
The selling price of the second jacket = ....(ii)
Therefore, according to the question we get
[S.P. of the second jacket] - [S.P. of the first jacket] = 6
we will substitute from (i) & (ii)
1.05x - 1.04x = 6
⇒ 0.01x = 6
⇒ x =
⇒ x = Rs. 600
Thus,
(b) Finding the selling prices of the jacket
Now, we will substitute the value of x = Rs. 600 in eq. (i) & (ii), we get
The selling price of the first jacket = 1.04 × 600 = Rs. 624
The selling price of the second jacket = 1.05 × 600 = Rs. 630
Thus,
