SOLUTION :-

Let the first number be - x

Let the second number be - y

ACCORDING TO THE QUESTION ,

x - y = 68

=> x = 68 + y ____(i)

x : y = 17 : 13

=> x = 17y / 13 ____ (ii)

Therefore putting the value of x from equation (i) to equation (ii) we get ,

68 + y = 17y / 13

=> 13 ( 68 + y) = 17y

=> 884 + 13y = 17y

=> 17y - 13y = 884

=> 4y = 884

=> y = 221

Therefore putting the value of y in eqn (i) we get ,

x = 68 + 221

=> x = 289 ...

Answer :- x = 289 and y = 221
