Every line in the hydrogen spectrum corresponding to a particular transition from some higher to lower energy level.

The lines of the Lyman series appear when electrons from higher energy levels (i.e n2= 2,3,4,5, etc.)

drop to the 1st energy level (i.e, n1=1). these lines occurs in the ULTRAVIOLET region electromagnetic spectrum

(wave length =2000A⁰- 3800A⁰). When exicted electrons drop from higher energy levels (n2= 3,4,5,6,etc.) to the second energy level (i.e, n2=2), the BALMER series results.

This occurs in the visible part of electromagnetic spectrum.
