We know that Complementary angle = 180°.

x° - y° = 12° ------------ Equation (2)

adding equations (1 ) and ( 2).......

( x° + y°) + ( x° - y° ) = 90° + 12°

=> x° + x° + y° - y° = 102°

=> 2x° = 102°

=> x° = 51°
