The sum of complementary angles is 90°

x + y = 90°

x = 90 - y..........(1)

x - y = 40

90 - y - y = 40....... (from 1)

- 2y = - 50

y = 50/2

y = 25°

x = 90 - y

x = 90 - 25 = 65°

So the angles are 65° and 25°.
