p - (-8) = 3

=> p + 8 = 3

=> p = 3 - 8

=> p = -5 ______ (i)

-p -8 = 3

=> -p = 3 + 8

=> p = -11

There are two possibilities

( l ) p > - 8

So we get a equation

P - ( - 8 ) = 3

》p + 8 = 3

》p = 3 - 8

》p = - 5

( 'll ) P < - 8

So

- 8 - p = 3

》 - 8 - 3 = p

》p = - 11
