Given

b² - a² = 25

b = a+1 (as b>a and they are consecutive)

Thus we can interpret it as;

  • (b+a)(b-a) = 25
  • (a+1+a)(a+1-a) = 25
  • (2a +1)(1) = 25
  • 2a + 1 = 25
  • 2a = 24
  • a = 12

Substitute value of a in b;

  • b = a + 1
  • b = 12 + 1
  • b = 13
