The difference of the digits of a two digit number is 4 . when the digits are interchange the new number is smaller than the original number by 36 . Find the two digits?

Solution:
Let x and y be the two-digit number.
x-y=4 , then we interchange itxy-yx=36
If x=8 and y = 4, then we obtain,8-4=4 and if we interchange it, we get the value of 36,
84-48=36.
Therefore, the two-digit number are 4 and 8.
