Step-by-step explanation:

Let’s take two numbers are x and y and x>y. Now,

A number (x) is (=) 2 more (+) than thrice (3) the second number (y)

We can form equation

x = 3 y + 2 ……………. (1)

4 times the smaller number (y) is (=) 5 more (+) than the greater number (x)

4 y = x + 5 ……………. (2)

From Eq (1) put value of x in Eq. (2)

4 y = (3 y + 2) + 5

4 y - 3 y = 7

y = 7

put in above value in Eq. 1

x = 3 (7) + 2 = 23

So greater number (x) is 23

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the smaller number be x,

and larger number be 3x+2.

Difference of both these numbers will be-

3x+2-x= 4

2x+2= 4

2x= 2

Hence x is equal to 1. The numbers are 1 and 5.
