⭐ Question :-

the difference of two number is 72 and the quotient obtained on dividing on by other is 4 find the other numbers.

⭐ Given :-

  • Difference between the two numbers is 72

  • Quotient obtained on dividing by other is 4.

⭐ To Find :-

  • The two numbers.

⭐ Solution :-

Let the first number be x + 72 and the second number be x .

According to the question,

• (x + 72)/x = 4

★ Finding the numbers.

It's given that by dividing one by other, we obtained 4 as the quotient.

⇒(x + 72)/x = 4

Now, we will cross multiply the numbers.

⇒x + 72 = 4x

We will move the numbers from RHS to LHS and LHS to RHS.

⇒x - 4x = - 72

⇒- 3x = - 72

⇒x = 72/3

⇒x = 24

Therefore, 1st number is 24 + 72 = 96 and second number is 24.

⭐ Verification :-

Now, let verify by substituting the value of the two numbers.

⇒1st number - 2nd number = 72 [ equation 1 ]

⇒96 - 24 = 72

⇒72 = 72

______________________

⇒1st number/2nd number = 4 [ equation 2 ]

⇒96/24 = 4

⇒4 = 4

Hence, verified.
