Answer:

let the two numbers be x and y

now, x - y= 1

x+y = 25

adding both equations,

2x = 26

x = 13

Therefore y = x-1 = 12

Therefore the two numbers are 12 and 13.

\huge\bf\underline{Question:}

The difference of two numbers is 1. Their sum is 25. What are the numbers ?

\huge\bf\underline{Solution:}

Let the number be x and y.

Their difference is 1.

\implies x - y = 1------(i)

There sum is 25.

\implies x + y = 25------(ii)

Now,we need to solve these equation to find the value of x and y.

There are three methods to solve pairs of linear equation in one variable.

1.Substitution Method

2.Elimination Method

3.Cross Multiplication Method

Lets solve it by Substitution Method.

From equation (i) we get,

x = y + 1

Substitute the value of x in equation (ii)

(y + 1) + y = 25

2y = 24

\boxed{\sf{\red{y = 12}}}

Substitute the value of y in equation (i)

x - 12 = 13

\boxed{\sf{\red{x=13}}}

Therefore,the two numbers are 12 and 13.
