because 10-8=2

xy = 80. --------2

FROM 1 put x = y+2 in (2)

(y+2)(y) = 80

y²+2y = 80

y² + 2 y - 80 = 0

y² +10 y - 8y - 80 = 0

y (y+10) -8(y+10) = 0

(y-8)(y+10) = 0

therefore numbers are 8 and 10
