let 1 no.be x
then other no.is x/3
then
x+x/3=20
3x+x/3=20
4x/3=20
4x=60
x=60/4
x=15
so 1st no. is 15 and other no. is 5
then other no.is x/3
then
x+x/3=20
3x+x/3=20
4x/3=20
4x=60
x=60/4
x=15
so 1st no. is 15 and other no. is 5

Hey
Let the two numbers be x and y .
Difference = ( x - y )
Now given :-
( x - y ) = 20 .
And , y = 1 / 3 * x ( given ) .
A / q ,
x - x / 3 = 20
=> 3x - x / 3 = 20
=> 2x / 3 = 20
=> x = 20 * 3 / 2
=> x = 10 * 3
=> x = 30 .
So ,
y = x / 3
= 30 / 3
= 10 .
So , two numbers are :-
30 and 10.
thanks :)
