Solution :

Let

• First number = x
• Second number = y

1st case :

Difference between them is 50.

→ x - y = 50

→ x = 50 + y ...i)

2nd case :

Smaller number divided by the greater number, fraction obtained is 3/8.

According to question :

→ y/x = 3/8

→ y/50 + y = 3/8

→ 8 × y = 3 (50 + y)

→ 8y = 150 + 3y

→ 8y - 3y = 150

→ 5y = 150

→ y = 30

Put the value of y in eq i)

→ x = 50 + y

→ x = 50 + 30

→ x = 80

Hence,

• The numbers are 30 and 80 respectively.
