x = 12+y

4 years ago:

cousin 1 = x-4

cousin2 = y-4

acc to the question:x-4= 4(y-4)

                                 12+y-4=4y-16

                                 8+y=4y-16

                                  24= 3y

                                   y = 8

so previously:

x = 12+y

x = 12+8

x = 20
