The Bond formed by the transfer of electrons between metal and nonmetal are called Ionic bond. Also called electrovalent bond.

Properties of Ionic bond

  • Solid and hard , generally brittle.
  • High melting and boiling point.
  • Generally soluble in water but insoluble in solvents like kerosene , petrol etc.
  • Good conductor of electricity.
