Let the integers be x and (x + 5)

Then,

⇔x(x+5)=500

⇔x2+5x−500=0

⇔(x+25)(x−20)=0

⇔x=20

So, the numbers are 20 and 25

Answer:

the numbers are 25,20

Step-by-step explanation:

let, the 1st integer be=x

      the 2nd integer be=y

according to the problem,

  x-y=5 . let this be equation 1

also given that (xy)=500

from this we can say that x=500/y

now substitute this value in eq 1

\frac{500}{y}-y=5

500-y^{2}=5y

y^{2}+5y-500=0

the factors are 25,20

y^{2}+25y-20y-500=0

y(y+25)-20(y+25)=0

(y+25)+(y-20)=0

y=20 if we substitute this value in eq1

we get x=25
