The digestion of food in humans starts in the
in the
and is completed
Answers
Answer:
Starts - Mouth
Ends - Small Intestine
Answer:
Saliva begins the process of digestion in the mouth as it contains an enzyme called amylase. Amylase helps in breaking down starch present in food during mastication into smaller carbohydrates. The food bolus then reaches the stomach where it is converted into chyme (a semi-fluid mass of partly digested food) by acids and pepsin. As it enters the small intestine it is further digested by enzymes from the pancreas(pancreatic amylase, lipase, and trypsin) as well as those secreted from the small intestine (Maltase and peptidases). Most of the digestion occurs in the small intestine due to action of enzymes as well as due to nutrient absorption. The Large intestine absorbs only water from wastes creating stools which pass from rectum to anus.
Explanation:
Digestion involves the mixing of food, its movement through the digestive tract, and the chemical breakdown of the large molecules of food into smaller molecules. Digestion begins in the mouth, when we chew and swallow, and is completed in the small intestine.
