the digit in the tens place of a two digit number is 3 times that in the units place. if the digits are reversed, the new number will be 36 less the original number. find the original number. check your solution

let the digit in tenth place be 'x'

and ones be 'y'

(1)....

x = 3y


(2).....

10x + y = x + 10y + 36

9x - 9y = 36

---------------------------

from (1) and (2)

27y - 9y = 36

y = 2

and

x = 3 * 2 = 6

the number is 63
