Answer:

Number of four litre cans of paint are needed  =  4  cans

Step-by-step explanation:

The dimension of a room are 5m 4m and 3m .

Thus, Length of room ,L =  5 m

         Breadth of room , B = 4 m

          Height of room , H =  3 m

So, total surface area of room excluding floor = (L * B) + [2 * H * (L + B)]

                                                            =  (5 * 4) + [2 * 3 * (5 + 4)]

                                                             =  20 + 54

                                                             =  74  m²

Also, the area of the window on a wall  =  3 m²

=> total area to be covered by paint =  74 - 3

                                                         =  71  m²

For double coat total area to be covered  = 71 * 2

                                                           =  142 m²

Here, it is given that -

A 4 litre paint can cover =  36 m²

=> Number of four litre cans of paint are needed  =   142/36

                                                                         =  4  cans
