SOLUTION

GIVEN

The dimensions of a hall are 6048 cm x 2440 cm.

TO DETERMINE

The minimum number of identical square shaped tiles that is required to furnish the hall

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the dimensions of the hall are 6048 cm x 2440 cm

So area of the hall

= 6048 cm x 2440 cm

Now

6048 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 13 × 13

2440 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 5 × 61

So HCF = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8

So area of each square shaped tiles

= 8 cm²

Let the required number of tiles = n

∴ n × Area of each square shaped tiles = Area of the hall

⇒ n × 8 = 6048 x 2440

\displaystyle\sf{ \implies \:  n= \frac{6048 \times 2440}{8}  }

\displaystyle\sf{ \implies \:  n= 230580  }

FINAL ANSWER

The minimum number of identical square shaped tiles that is required to furnish the hall = 230580
