Given :  dimensions of a room is 14m and 24m .

border with tiles of 1m square are laid on all along its sides

To Find : the number of tiles needed..

Solution:

dimensions of a room is 14m and 24m

Area of floor = 14 x 24  =  336 m²

a border with tiles of 1m square are laid on all along its sides,

Hence Size remains after laying tiles

= 14 - 1 - 1   and 24 - 1  - 1

= 12 and 22 m

Area of Floor excluding border = 12 x 22  = 264 m²

Area of Border = 336 - 264

= 72 m²

Area of a tile = 1 x 1  = 1 m²

Number of tiles required = 72/1  =72

72 Tiles needed.
