.The dimensions of a suitcase are 40cm× 45cm× 15 cm.It is to be covered by a cloth of 50 cm width.How many metres of cloth is required for this purpose ?
Answers
Answer:
A suitcase with measures 80 cm × 48 cm × 24 cm is to be covered with a tarpaulin cloth. How many meters of tarpaulin of width 96 cm is required to cover 100 such suitcases?
Solution:
Let the length of the tarpaulin cloth = x cm
Since, the suitcase is cuboidal in shape,
Total surface of the suitcase = 2(lb + bh + hl) .... (1)
Here, l = 80cm, b = 48cm, h = 24cm
Thus, substituting the values in equation (1) we get,
= 2 [(80 × 48) + (48 × 24) + (24 × 80)] cm²
= 2 [3840 + 1152 + 1920] cm²
= 13824 cm²
Total surface area of 100 suitcases
= 100 × 13824 m²
= 1382400 cm²
Area of the tarpaulin cloth required = Total surface area of 100 suitcases = 1382400 cm²
Area of the required tarpaulin cloth = Length × Breadth
1382400 cm² = x × 96 cm
x = 1382400/96 cm = 14400 cm
x = 144 m
