because if we suppose a body moving in +ve x axis and acceleration acting on it is in -x axis then for some time period the velocity vector will be in +ve x axis so direction of motion for that time will be in the direction of velocity vector hence for direcyion of motion of abody direction of velocity is taken in consideration
