Solution : The direction of electric field due + positive charge is radially outwards.

  • Electric field is defined as the electric force per unit charge. The direction of the electric field is in the direction of the force it will exert on a test charge
  • By convention test charge is taken as positive, we know that like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other , So when a positive charge is placed near the test charge , and like charges repel each other , the positive charge will move away from the test charge , so the direction of the force is away from the test charge.
  • Hence the direction of the electric field is radially outwards.
