An induction machine is disclosed with a special winding for the combined production of torque and transverse force in the same. The current in a control winding of the stator is used to adjust the strength and direction of the transverse force acting on the rotor of the same. The invention is based on an idea by P. K. Hermann, who has described an active magnetic bearing with rotary drive whose radial support is based on the magnetic tractive force.
