the distance travelled is not Zero only the displacement is zero because, displacement is the shortest distance from initial point to final point. if the object returns back to the point it started so the distance between them will be zero so that's why displacement is zero

the displacement is the difference(or change ) between starting and final points. for example if you take a walk from your home to a nearby park and return to your starting point in a certain time interval then your displacement will be zero as initial and final points are same. But surely you have traveled some distance.
